Fiona and Polly work exclusively together as a flute and piano duet.

Their work has taken them as far afield as U.A.E, Portugal, Holland, Belgium, Sweden and Denmark and they are now primarily available for UK concert dates and corporate/private engagements.

Fiona McLaughlin - Flautist

Fiona graduated from Dartington College of Arts with BA Music Hons, which included a term at the Lisbon Superior School of Music, Portugal. She then followed her training with studies at Maastricht Conservatorium in the Netherlands with Peter Rikxs and then at Malmo Academy of Music, Sweden with Anders Ljungar-Chapelon. Fiona has also had training and attended master classes with Peter Llloyd, Janet Way, Clive Conway, Anthony Pringsheim, and Wissam Boustany. She won a full scholarship to the 10th Oxford Summer School for Flutes.

Fiona’s work has taken her to the U.A.E, Portugal, Holland, Belgium, Sweden and Denmark as both a soloist and chamber musician. She has also had many UK engagements, a few include the Worcester Three Choirs Festival, Eton Hall, Mellerstain Castle, Classics at Kirkleatham, Chester Town Hall, Castle Howard and The Savill Exchange North Shields. Performing with composer and pianist Panos Demopoulos, pianists Marija and Graham Scott, Polly Sharpe and cellist Laura Chappell.

In 2006 Fiona returned from teaching in Abu Dhabi in the Middle East where she was woodwind teacher for the British School Al Khubairat. Fiona now has an active teaching practice in North Yorkshire and is the leader and founder member of a flute and string ensemble – The Fountains Ensemble.

Polly Sharpe - Pianist

Polly Sharpe was born in Kenya, and read music at Exeter College, Oxford. She studied piano accompaniment with Roger Vignoles and went on to complete a Master’s degree in piano accompaniment at the Royal Northern College of Music, studying with Ka Kit Tam and John Wilson and winning the Stella Bradshaw prize for accompaniment.

She was based in the West Midlands, where she worked as a piano teacher and accompanist for music students at Nottingham University and the Lichfield Music Festival and performed frequently with singers and instrumentalists, including concerts at the Lichfield Festival. Polly Sharpe moved to Cornwall in 2002 where she continued teaching, piano accompaniment and chamber music-making; she also organised masterclasses and teachers’ meetings through the Incorporated Society of Musicians for local music teachers.

She moved to York in 2008 and teaches privately and at St Peter’s School; she is in demand as an accompanist and has been an ABRSM examiner since 2006. Her occasional spare time is taken up with a young family, lively golden retriever and gardening.
